Disney Tomica is a toyline related to Tomica. It was first released in Japan in 2004.
Description[]
There have been a large number of Tomica releases based on Disney characters, ranging from mascot characters such as Mickey and Minnie to tie-ins of various movies. The original Disney Tomica Line was made up of numbered, standard-size Tomica vehicles. All had a "D" in front of the number.
Cars was originally included in this line, but split off to its own sub-line. There is also a short-lived line themed exclusively after Toy Story debuting in 2015, and one based on the Disney Junior animated series Mickey and the Roadster Racers in 2018. The police-themed Drive Saver series debuted in 2020.
The original Disney line was discontinued in 2008, and replaced with the Disney Motors line. Disney Motors was intended to be a fictional car company, staffed by Disney characters. They produced many custom model vehicles, such as the Chim Chim, Jamboree Cruiser, Dream Star and more. Certain vehicles in the line are numbered with a "DM", but many do not have a number. A lot of the vehicles in this line were also exclusives, released in certain stores only. There are also a few larger size vehicles in the line.
As well, Disney Motors released two sub-series, Jewelry Way, which included cars doubling as jewelry boxes, and Disney Motors Tsum Tsum.
Prior to the launch of the Disney Tomica line, Disney-themed cars were included in the Chara Tomica series. There was also the 2002 Disney Tomica Edition. Additionally, as early as 2001, Tokyo Disney Resorts have been selling an exclusive line of Tomica Vehicles, many of which are based on rides in the park.
