Hikaru is hot-blooded, brave and compassionate. He does have a tendency to behave childishly and simple-mindedly. However, because of the strength of his rescue soul, he was the member Ishiguro considered for the next captain after him.

Relationships[]

  • Kyosuke Jinrai: Among the members of Rescue Force, Kyosuke is the one Hikaru gets along with best. They are usually seen together, and fight together because both are large-scale vehicle drivers.
  • Rei Kozuki and Juri Shiraki: They are Hikaru's teammates and friends. They, along with Kyosuke, are his sempai.
  • Eiji Ishiguro: Hikaru's captain.
  • Ryuji: Hikaru's childhood friend, who is one of his biggest supporters.

In Rescue Force[]

Hikaru always dreamed of becoming a member of the Rescue Force since childhood. His first foray in rescue occurred during his elementary school years when he saved the life of the local mischief-maker Ryuji, whom he later befriended with. He underwent training, and after a year at a special rescue academy, he was assigned to Rescue Force as an apprentice due to his high skill in operating rescue vehicles. Hikaru became the second-generation R1 and was given the AI car Core Striker (later upgraded to the Core Striker Max to better keep up with Hikaru) to drive, which serves as the cockpit to the large-scale vehicle, Rescue Striker.

He completes his first rescue when he saves a boy named Mamoru, who was trapped in a fire. He extinguishes the fire with the Rescue Striker's Water Cannon.

Eventually, his apprentice period come to an end and he becomes a full-fledged member of Rescue Force. Only Kyosuke truly believed that he would be accepted, as both Rei and Juri bet that he wouldn't make it.

Not long after, an extreme disaster hit Hikaru's hometown, where dry ice was falling from the sky. When Hikaru returned, he was shunned by the townspeople due to his troubled past. However, he earned their respect by saving the day along with the other members of Rescue Force.

Hikaru continued to perform many rescues, including saving his teammates Juri and Kyosuke from trouble, and helping Rei learn the importance of rescuing not just people, but their smiles as well. With the aid of the various medium-scale vehicles which could combine with the Rescue Striker, he is able to save even more people. This includes the weather woman Kirara Amamiya, whom he has a crush on. Although, he's soon heartbroken when he learns that she has a fiance.

Later, a new enemy named Daen appears, who was the leader of Neo Terror, the group behind the numerous super disasters which had been occurring. Hikaru encounters him briefly, but they don't formerly meet until later, when he and Rei are ambushed after being lured into a mansion. He learns that Daen is actually Obuchi, the former R1.

Hikaru is able to transform into R1 Max, a more powerful form. This was a mode which Obuchi had been developing during his time in Rescue Force, but was unable to properly use. With this new power, he defeats Daen, but learns soon after that Daen was actually being controlled by a strange light, which is expelled from him. Shortly after, Daen sacrifices himself to destroy his Terra Resetters and prevent the major disaster he nearly caused. Hikaru had desperately tried to stop him, but captain Ishiguro persuaded him not to, stating that this would be Obuchi's last rescue.

Despite Daen's death, his personality was transferred to Obuchi's personal vehicle, creating AI Daen. AI Daen attacks with Dark Striker, a black copy of the Rescue Striker, and uses it to take over all of Rescue Force's medium-scale vehicles. However, to defeat it, Hikaru and Kyosuke combine their Rescue Striker and Rescue Saver to the Rescue Max, a large robot. This was another of Obuchi's former designs.

After this, Hikaru and Kyosuke continue to utilize the Rescue Max to stop most disasters. They later form the Super Rescue Max as well, which is a robot that combines the Rescue Striker and Rescue Diver.

Ultimately, Maen, the next leader of Neo Terror creates the Omega Zukcrane which will cause all volcanoes in the world to erupt. This can only be stopped when Hikaru forms the God Striker, which combines the Rescue Striker, Rescue Saver, and all medium vehicles that currently existed.

At some point later, Rescue Force gets a new cadet, Satoru Yuki. Satoru would only be working with them temporarily, but Hikaru decided to train him, because Satoru stated that he admired R1. However, Satoru turns out to be super-competent, making Hikaru seem like the student. Satoru's opinion on Hikaru quickly changes. Ishiguro tells Hikaru that there's still something he should be able to teach Satoru, however. Soon, a fire breaks out, and it's learned that someone is still trapped inside a building. Hikaru goes to rescue them, until Satoru insists that he stop, because the victim was actually just a little boy's pet turtle, Ryuusuke. Despite this, Hikaru stays to rescue Ryuusuke. What he was able to teach Satoru is that he has to save all lives, as well as people's smiles.

Because Hikaru has been pushing himself too much in rescues, Ishiguro insists that he take a vacation. He is sent on a trip to Kiyoizawa, persuaded by the fact that there are lots of pretty girls there. Hikaru is disappointed to find that the place is full of couples. But he does meet Kirara there, as well as Ryuji. Hikaru finds out how much positive effect he's had on people, as Kirara's outlook on life changed after Hikaru saved her, and Ryuji has taken up volunteer work. Naturally, an extreme disaster occurs at the mountains where Hikaru is. Because he's unable to equip, this time, the remaining members of Rescue Force have to come and rescue him. Once they arrive, he joins in the fight as usual, saving the day again. He inspires a boy he rescued there to join Rescue Force when he grows up.

Ultimately, Maen acquires enough energy to return to her true form, Batsu. In order to get through Batsu's shield and destroy him for good, Hikaru and the other members of Rescue Force combine all the vehicles at once, into the Great God Striker. Eventually, Hikaru alone is the one who enters Batsu's body and destroys it, at the cost of destroying the Rescue Striker (which is later repaired anyway).

After the world is saved, the members of Rescue Force all decide to go their separate ways, with Hikaru the only one choosing to remain an active member. However, that day, one last disaster strikes. A gas is released which causes humans to hallucinate and become paranoid. Hikaru is effected by this, and becomes afraid. But a girl became trapped on the ledge of a building accidentally, because the three former Neo Terror executives Maare, San and Sica frightened her. Hoping to save her, the three inspire Hikaru, who overcomes his fears and completes the rescue.

In the epilogue, Hikaru is seen dealing with a new disaster, together with new comrades.
